John Edward Yates

John Edward Yates was a wealthy cotton manufacturer who lived in Westbrook House in Castleton, Rochdale.[1] They were born in either 1848 or 1849.

They were appointed as a director of the Manchester Royal Exchange on 7th December 1894.[2] They were the treasurer of the exchange for around 26 years.

In 1934, just two months before his death, he presented the City of Manchester with a jade collection worth approximately £70,000.[3]

John Edward Yates died on 5th May 1934 at the age of 85 years old.[4] Their funeral service was held at the Manchester Crematorium at 11am on 8th May 1934.[3]

Following their death, their estate was valued at £201,768.[5]
