History

Brooklands Railway Station

Brooklands Railway Station opened on 1st December 1859 as part of Manchester South Junction and Altrincham Railway.[1][2]

Work began on the electrification of the Manchester South Junction and Altrincham Railway in April 1929,[3] and lasted until 1931. On 11th May 1931, the railway re-opened to the public as an electrified line.[4]

The British Railways Board withdrew all passenger services at Brooklands Railway Station from 24th December 1991 onwards, effectively closing it. A replacement bus service was in operation from 27th December 1991 until the future opening of the Metrolink tram stop.[5]
