Gorse Hill Park

Gorse Hill Park is a park in the Gorse Hill area of Stretford, Trafford.

History

In June 1901, Stretford District Council decided that the rapid expansion of the Gorse Hill area (back then referred to as the Talbot Ward) warranted open spaces for the local residents. The council then began negotiations with Sir Humphrey de Trafford to procure a suitable plot of land, and the result was today's site of Gorse Hill Park. It was described at the time as being approximately 12 acres.[1]

In 1905 the council announced they would apply to the Local Government Board for powers to borrow £29,117 for the development of various recreational grounds, including Gorse Hill Park, which was costed at £10,416.[2]

At some point between 1908 and 1915, Gorse Hill Park was built and consisted of the main park area, with a tennis ground and three bowling greens to the easterly side.[3][4]
