Being an 'Express' hotel, it's aimed towards travellers rather than family stays, with limited on-site amenities but a complimentary breakfast is included with all bookings.[1] Check-out time is 11am as standard, but customers can negotiate later check-out times with reception if necessary, usually subject to a fee.

History

Travelodge Manchester Airport

Around £8 million was invested into the site to open a Travelodge Manchester Airport with a capacity of over 200 bedrooms. In anticipation of the hotel opening, a recruitment drive created 65 jobs for the local area.[5]

Travelodge Manchester Airport was opened by the Managing Director of Manchester Airport Developments, Jim Bethell, on 2nd December 2005. At the time of opening it was the second-largest Travelodge outside of London, and was the ninth Travelodge in Greater Manchester.[5]

About 7 years later, Travelodge's creditors agreed to sell off the Manchester Airport site in 2012 as part of a wider plan to improve the company's finances.[6]

Holiday Inn Express Manchester Airport

In Late March 2014, the site re-opened as a Holiday Inn Express following a £2 million refurbishment. The bedroom capacity had been slightly reduced down to 199 bedrooms. The hotel was owned by Manchester Airport Group and operated by RBH Hospitality Management.[7][8]

In May 2018, permission was granted by Manchester City Council for the hotel to have a vestibule entrance.[9] This was constructed at some point afterwards. In April 2019, permission was also granted for a fourth floor to be built, increasing the bedroom count by 79.[10] Despite being approved, the planning permission was never utilised and the hotel remains three-storey.

Manchester Airport Group sold off Holiday Inn Express Manchester Airport in 2020, along with the rest of it's non-core property portfolio. The hotel was acquired by Columbia Threadneedle Investments as part of the transaction.[11]

The estate agent Knight Frank was appointed by Columbia Threadneedle Investments in November 2025 to sell the hotel, with a minimum price of £12.5 million.[12]
