Mosley Street

Mosley Street is a street in the heart of Manchester city centre, connecting St Peter's Square to Piccadilly Gardens.

While Mosley Street features a paved road, only Metrolink trams are permitted to drive down it. However, there are three junctions where normal road traffic can cross over Mosley Street.

There was historically a Mosley Street Tram Stop as part of the original Metrolink network from 1992, but this was later closed down in 2013 and subsequently demolished.

Incidents

On 22nd February 2025, a 35-year-old man was driving a Mercedez Sprinter van after taking 20 lines of cocaine. His van collided with a tram when crossing Mosley Street, causing his van to go onto the pavement, colliding with three-year-old Louisa "Lulu" Palmisano. Lulu unfortunately died soon after being taken to hospital. The driver fled the scene in a taxi, but was arrested by police two days later (24th February). Appearing before Manchester Crown Court, the van driver pleaded guilty and on 27th May was sentenced to 12 years in prison (as well as a driving disqualification for over 13 years).^[1]
