Altrincham Road

Altrincham Road (A560) is an A road that runs from Brooklands Roundabout (Baguley) in the west, through to the east where it becomes Northenden Road (Gatley).

History

The road existed prior to 1839, being shown on the Cheshire Tithe Map as a "Turnpike Road". This meant that it was likely maintained by a turnpike trust that operated toll gates along the route, charging road users a fee to use the well-maintained road. This signals that even in the early 1800s, it was a major thoroughfare for the local area.
