Butcher Lane
Butcher Lane is a street in Baguley, Manchester, with postcode designations of M23 9GN and M23 9FY.
History
The street itself can be seen on maps as far back as around 1839. While the road layout is pretty much identical to modern day, it lacked a bridge due to the railway line not yet existing. At this point in time, Butcher Farm appears to be the only residence on the road.
At some point between 1839 and 1876[1] the railway line that crosses Butcher Lane was constructed. It can be reasonably assumed this happened in the 1860s, as Baguley Railway Station opened in 1865.
In the late 1800s and early 1900s the street was home to Heber Cottage at the north, and Butcher Farm at the south.
The first known print reference to the street name 'Butcher Lane' was in 1939, when a Morris Minor automobile was listed for sale at Butcher Farm.[2]
