Trafford Council is one of the ten metropolitan borough councils in Greater Manchester, and acts as the local authority for the Trafford area. It has been headquartered at Trafford Town Hall in Stretford since its inception in 1974.

The council is currently under Labour control, and has been led by Tom Ross since 2023.

History

In early 2026, Trafford Council was given permission by the UK Government to increase council tax by up to 7.49% for the 2026-2027 financial year.[1] The council is also looking to sell off various assets in a desperate bid to balance the budget, including Altrincham Town Hall.[2]
