Ferndown Road
Ferndown Road is a street in Baguley, Manchester. It stems from Altrincham Road at the south, and runs north-westerly to Wendover Road. Arden Lodge Road, Chesterton Road, Wythenshawe Road, Farden Drive and Wincanton Avenue all stem from Ferndown Road.
History
Ferndown Road was built at some point between 1839 and 1876, at which point it ran from Altrincham Road to Wythenshawe Road, but had no other roads stemming from it and it didn't extend any further north.
At some point between 1897 and 1908, Arden Lodge became established on the Altrincham Road-Ferndown Road junction. This would later be developed into Arden Lodge Road as part of the urbanisation of Baguley.
In the 1950s, Ferndown Road was extended north-westerly to connect to the newly constructed Wendover Road, again, as part of Baguley's urbanisation.
The first print reference to the street is an engagement announcement on 4th May 1954.[1]
