Southmoor Road

Southmoor Road is a street in Baguley, Manchester, containing only commercial units and public services. It runs from the Altrincham Road junction at the north, down to Wythenshawe Hospital at the south.

History

In about 1839, the north end of Southmoor Road vaguely followed the same path as it does today, starting at a junction on the turnpike road (Altrincham Road) and heading south. At this time the railway lines did not exist and so there was no bridge. The south end of Southmoor Road did not exist yet, as Baguley Sanatorium (Wythenshawe Hospital) was not planned until much later in 1900.

The street is named Southmoor Road as it started at the south-east boundary of Baguley Moor, which is today the site of Brookway Retail Park and Dixons Brooklands Academy.
