Timpson House
Timpson House was the headquarters of Timpson on Timpson Road in Baguley, Manchester, from the 1960s until the 2010s when it was replaced by Lidl.
Construction
In the late 1950s the plot of land that would become Timpson House was lightly populated by a few houses such as The Cottage, Avon Lodge, Briarfield, and Sandycroft. These properties were all on Altrincham Road, just to the west of the junction with Southmoor Road. At this point in time, Sandy Lane curved northwards and connected to Altrincham Road, so the properties were actually situated on the historical Altrincham Road-Sandy Lane junction.
On 4th January 1963, Timpson were advertising for an engineer for their "new Headquarters and Warehouse" on Southmoor Road,[1] so assumedly Timpson House opened in 1962 or 1963.
Timpson House served as the company headquarters, while a much larger warehouse sat adjacent to the west, along with a depot and various other auxiliary buildings. Road access was via the new Timpson Road which ran along the south of the site and connected to Sandy Lane, which appears to have been altered to run eastwards rather than northwards to Altrincham Road.
